Our holiday home Hidas Ház (the house with the bridge) is a renovated and extended authentic Hungarian farm house in Somogydöröcske. This quiet village of approximately 200 inhabitants is beautifully located in a valley, in a thinly populated area in the south western part of Hungary. Thanks to its unique rural landscape, Somogydöröcske received the ‘Europa Nostra’ Heritage Award from the European Federation for Cultural Heritage in 1998. The village is situated between Lake Balaton and the city of Kaposvár, at about half an hour’s drive from both.

The central location of the house provides an excellent starting point for all kinds of excursions and activities. The region offers many possibilities for hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and swimming. Hungary also has numerous thermal health spas, for an uniquely relaxing experience. At a 15 minutes’ drive from the house you will find the beautiful spa of Igal, which also has a child-friendly swimming pool. Of course the famous Lake Balaton is nearby, or you can visit one of Hungary’s many interesting cities like Pécs, Székesfehérvár or Budapest.

As a wine country, Hungary is highly underestimated. You will be surprised at the variety of honest and elegant wines that the regional vineyards have to offer. We warmly recommend a visit to the wine regions around Lake Balaton and Villány. You can also participate in one of the interesting programs or creative workshops.
